Community Member-Led Event
This fundraiser is in honor of our Dad, Bill “Rocket” Anslow.
Our dad was a man full of life and truly lived life to the fullest. He was an avid NY Rangers and NY Yankees fan, he loved gardening and nature, cherished his dogs, and most importantly loved his family and friends. He was kind and generous to anyone he met. His friend circle is infinite. He is missed beyond measure.
One year ago he began having some balance issues. He eventually gave in and agreed to go to the hospital to determine what was causing these issues. After a long day of sitting in the emergency room and an inaccurate diagnosis of a stroke, a doctor told him they found a mass on his brain and he needed to be transported to Albany Medical Center immediately. No one knew what is in store for the coming days or how drastically his life and ours would change.
A few hours later, at 2 in the morning, now in a different hospital, a doctor would enter to waken my dad to tell him the mass was in a bad location and that it was inoperable.
A biopsy was needed to determine a treatment plan. This was risky given the location of the mass. The surgery was performed for the biopsy. And dad came home several days later. He could not wait to see his dogs, Max and Oliver, who he missed terribly while being in the hospital for these 10 days.
Our family remained hopeful. We contacted Memorial Sloan Kettering and Lenox Hill in NYC and were able to speak on the phone with neurosurgeons who wanted to help. We scheduled appointments to get him seen by these doctors. Unfortunately, we lost him suddenly within two weeks of diagnosis, the day before his appointment in the city.
Our family is devastated without him.
Our goal is to help other families in similar situations. We feel very strongly about the projects and mission of the Glioblastoma Research Organization.
The proceeds from this fundraiser are going directly to Project Rush. Lenox Hill has partnered with the Glioblastoma Research Organization for this project and it is being led by Dr. Boockvar who was an immense help to us. We are confident that his research, combined with his compassion as a doctor will result in improved treatments and outcomes for this horrible disease.
