Barbara "Babs" Johnson's journey with grade 4 glioblastoma began just after her 71st birthday, introducing her and her only son, Eric Hurnyak, to a whirlwind of palliative care and relentless medical battles. Despite the gravity of her diagnosis, Babs approached her fight with unwavering determination, diving into research on the disease and clinical trials while maintaining her trademark positivity. As her illness progressed, Eric, spurred by her resilience, turned to endurance cycling for solace and strength, finding a way to honor his mother's wishes through the Babs 360 Ride.
The Babs 360 Ride is a testament to Babs' spirit, covering 360 miles along the Erie Canalway Trail from Buffalo to Albany. This arduous journey symbolizes the ongoing fight against glioblastoma and aims to raise awareness and vital funds for the Glioblastoma Research Organization. Inspired by the organization's mission and the story of its founder, Amber Barbach, who also navigated the challenges of a parent's glioblastoma diagnosis, this ride honors Babs' legacy by continuing her quest for hope and progress in the face of adversity.
